It is designed to meet strict fair information principles under the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It is not a substitute for legal advice and may be updated as we grow.
When you create an account we keep your email, display name, optional profile photo, and neighborhood walking radius. When you share food we store the listing (title, description, photos, category, hand-off preference) and the precise map coordinates of the pickup so we can calculate distance. The public map only shows an approximate privacy circle, not your exact pin. We also store messages you send to neighbors, your device's push-notification token, and reports you or others submit so we can keep the neighborhood safe.
We use this information to run the neighborhood share: show nearby listings, let you message a neighbor about a pickup, send you a ping when something happens in a thread, and let moderators review reports of harm or spam.
Account, listings, photos, and messages are stored in our Supabase database and file storage. Production infrastructure runs securely in Canada (Canada Central). We do not sell your information. Apple (push notifications, App Store) and Apple Maps may process device or location data as part of using those system services.
Your account and listings stay while the account is open. Listing photos are removed when the listing or account is deleted. Messages older than 24 months are removed automatically. Reports and safety records may be kept longer so we can handle abuse. If an administrator bans an account, that wipe is permanent; a thin record of the ban may be kept so the same person cannot immediately return to harm neighbors.
You can edit your profile and listings in the app. You can delete your account from Profile ➔ Account Security & Data Privacy. That removes your profile, listings, photos, and messages we hold for that account.
Administrators can review reports and listing details, and may read message metadata or content when needed to investigate abuse. They can suspend or permanently remove an account that breaks community rules.

Karma Kupboard is a free, neighborhood food-share. Neighbors list surplus food and household leftovers so someone nearby can pick them up. It is not a store, a marketplace, or a delivery service. Nothing on the app is for sale.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Arranging a pickup is a real-world meetup. Only do that if you are comfortable and able to do so safely.
List surplus food and ordinary household leftovers you are giving away. Do not list things that are not food — tires, bikes, furniture, and similar items do not belong here. Be honest about what the item is, its condition, and how pickup works.
Everything listed must be free. Do not post a price, ask for Venmo, cash, trade-for-pay, or any other payment — in a listing, in chat, or at pickup. Asking for money is against these terms and can get an account suspended or banned.
A listing is a gift between neighbors. You are responsible for what you share and for what you choose to pick up and eat. Karma Kupboard does not inspect food, guarantee it is safe, or supervise pickups. If something feels off, walk away and report the listing or neighbor.
You are responsible for what you post. We may remove a listing, photo, or message that breaks these terms or that a neighbor reports. Repeated or serious abuse can lead to a warning, a suspension, or a permanent ban.
Use Report on a listing, or block a neighbor, if something is not food, is for sale, is unsafe, or is harassment. Administrators can review reports, listing details, and messages when needed to investigate. They can remove content and suspend or permanently remove an account.
We provide the app as a community tool. We are not a party to any pickup, we do not guarantee that an item will be there or as described, and we are not responsible for foodborne illness, no-shows, or what happens when neighbors meet. Use the app at your own judgment.
